R.I.P. Julian Gonzalez.
Sad news out of the Gran Canarias with the news of the passing of respected ripper Julian Gonzalez whilst surfing at El Fronton a few days ago.
Initial reports suggest that Julian was surfing Fronton on a not ideal swell direction and knocked unconscious and subsequently drowned, despite the best efforts of other surfers to resuscitate him. Paramedics arrived on the scene a short time later and transported him to a nearby hospital where he was later being pronounced dead.
A regular competitor at the Fronton King Pro, tributes on social media spoke of Julian’s positive nature, skill and bravery in the ocean and friendly smile.
Heavy times for the Canaries crew and a timely reminder that waves like Fronton truly are waves of consequence.
