The Lid Game winners!
Congratulations on your win in the initial Lid Game contest!

Congratulations on your win in the initial Lid Game contest!

G.P. Thank you! And thank you for hosting. It was a blast!

C.W. Cheers! loved it so much, I was looking forward to every Wednesday.

How did you find the experience overall?

G.P. At first, it was amazing! As the other players fell off, it became a bit more stressful and pressure was added to make it to the finish line.

C.W. My strategy was to lean on my connections within the sport, which also made the game more interesting as I got to catch up with people that I hadn’t chatted to in years.

Did you have a strategy at all going into the game or just adjusting on the fly?

G.P. Not at all going into it. When the sample question came up, I reached out to those who might be in the know. It was truly amazing the supporters who assisted me along the way in all hours of the night.

Which of the questions did you find most challenging?

G.P. The Ben Player question (Who won and lost a Pipe contest on the same day?) was tricky as was the youngest tour champion question. I, uh, we had a few answers and ended up looking at birthdays vs event dates. The Derek Reilly question was epic (Which famous surf journalist wrote Mike Stewart’s first profile piece in Riptide mag?).  It could have ended the game right here for everyone with a well thrown curve ball.

C.W. I think the deep history ones about the early pipe contests that I didn’t get to watch first hand.

Did you learn anything new about boogin’ during the game?

G.P. I did for sure. the Daniel Kaimi question was eye opening (Which world champ was eliminated from the contest before winning it the next day?). I am glad I read Infoamed or I would have had no idea what the answer was.

C.W. For sure, some of the questions were so broad it was like a school research project!

How important was networking in reaching the winners circle?

G.P. Critical. There is a lot of information floating around out there but getting details from the horse’s mouth sealed a few deals.

C.W. It was critical, I woulda been out in the first few weeks if I didn’t get help. PLC saved my bacon on the second last question which got me to the tie breaker!

Can you spill any gossip on the behind the scenes workings, how you sourced your answers or sought information from?

G.P. As a journalism major, I spent years in school doing research for papers, articles, essays and reports. Being part of the bodyboarding world, you just need to know how to reach out to people and on what platforms. If I sent an email tat was not responded to, I DMed via IG. If that didn’t work, FB Messenger. If that failed, I’d just call them. In the end, it all worked out. I have a lot of people to thank who came through in clutch situations. I would thank them here but then I would show my rolodex. Yes, I am that old.

C.W. Pretty much every week I went straight to the horses mouth, I was hitting up Benny Player, Kingy, Winny, Stewart even head judge Craig Hadden!
Bought back some great memories and helped kill a drive down south one week, chatting to Hardy about the Pipe fiasco when his wave got awarded to Ben etc etc

We know that you ( Glenn and Whitey) were working together for much of the game, how did that come about and were you ever tempted to throw the other person a red herring?

G.P. I have no idea what you are talking about.

C.W. I’ve known Glenn for a long time and knew he was the perfect guy to partner up with. He’s a Patron of mine from our Podcast and I’d put up the questions in our group and it just went from there. I would never have dogged him haha but I pretended to once.

Overall impression of The Lid Game and would you encourage others to get involved in The Lid Game V2 when it runs later this year?

G.P. Overall, it was a great distraction. Waiting around for the question to drop on Wednesday. Do my homework. Ensure I had verifiable evidence of the answer and SEND IT! I would love to see 1,000 frothers next game

C.W. Loved The Lid Game and would you encourage others to get involved in The Lid Game V2 when it runs later this year?
💯 it’s gonna get bigger and bigger, I can’t wait and I think as it does people will get more reluctant helping others. Cos I took it out people are already claiming that I’m the old man (Oh ll Nam) and … I can’t confirm or deny it.

Word is the boys are going to dump the winnings into a little Crypto currency venture if / when it rebounds.
