The ink was barely dry on our last article ( Read here: https://infoamed.com/2021/11/04/corporate-fucks-gunna-corporate/) on the popular uprising against the crass way in which Wham-O owned Morey bodyboards endeavoured to cash in on the passing of Tom Morey when big news broke!
Social media posts spruiking the boards…gone… Advertising…gone… Availability to pre-order the commemorative boards on the Morey webpage… gone…
In a victory for core bodyboarders world wide it looks as though the quick cash grab commemorative board is now kaput.
The question now lingers, if we could get this much done so quickly, where now do we turn out energies? What other evils need addressing that we caped crusaders can help consign to the wastebins of history?
Talk of a crowd funded buy out of Morey from under the fingers of its corporate overlords is wafting in the air, although this seems unlikely.
Would it be to ambitious to suggest a campaign not solely aimed at maiming Morey boards, but ALL lower end EPS boards sold to be cheap, disposable and end up in landfill, something we’ve highlighted before.
These types of “budget” boards are usually made by corporations with no link or interaction with the bodyboarding community and, environmental damaging capacity aside, funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars away from core bodyboard companies that would reinvest it back into the sport.
We’ll leave the ” how” of this endeavour up to the masses, but may we suggest similar targeted, coordinated spamming and social media pressure on the supermarket chains and sporting goods stores that stock these environmentally and financially damaging budget creations.
If we did it once, we can do it again!
